Re: What is the best software out there for teleplay?
"Best" is subjective. There are four main screenwriting programs and all of them to the same thing - format your script. None of them is "best". I like Movie Magic.
Re: What is the best software out there for teleplay?
Depends. I know that Final Draft comes with a number of templates that different television shows prefer for formatting. If you are wanting to write a spec based on an existing show, I would suggest FD, but I am a FD loyalist, its all I've ever worked with.

I second Final Draft. It's easy to use. I've used Sophocles before. It was good but it color codes scene headings, characters, dialouge, parenticals, etc. and that got kind of annoying. But it also gives you a estimated running time which was pretty convenient. However, it is all in the eye of the beholder.

I vote for Final Draft. It has templates for any kind of film or show you want to write for. It also works with you as you type instead of taking you out of your normal writing mode to worry about formatting. It's also pretty much the industry standard and will work on both Mac and PC.
