Which is truly the superior editing software? Final Cut or Avid? I've used Avid about 8 times more than I have Final Cut, but when I first starting using Final Cut, I noticed some things that I wish were in Avid, and some things that I wish Final Cut had from Avid. I know most professionals now use Avid, but I also know that Final Cut is "on the rise". It seems like though that on Final Cut, you are able to do more editing on the time line, it is convenient, but I'm sure it will cause people to become more lazy and not pay enough attention to detail. I plan on becoming more familiar with Final Cut, as well as honing my skills on Avid. But how does everyone else feel about these two?
Neither is superior. As you
Neither is superior.
As you have already noticed there are some things that you wish were in Avid, and some things that you wish Final Cut had. Both are excellent and both have their problems and differences.
I've never thought that an editor will become lazy and not pay attention to detail because the software is easier or more convenient to use. If that were the case, all NLE editors would be more lazy and pay less attention to detail than those who cut on flatbeds. Those were very inconvenient by comparison.
I prefer Final Cut. But that's because I'm more familiar with it - not because it's superior.
But I like RC Cola over Coke and Pepsi. But that's because it's superior.....
What I mean is not
What I mean is not necessarily that people may become lazy, but that when editing on the timeline with Final Cut, that you don't have the accuracy marking clips as you would if you were doing it the way intended. Yes it's more convenient for on-the-fly editing rather than removing the clip, marking in and out, and then placing it back in. But what I have seen people do on Final Cut is to take everything they've captured, place it on the time line, and then chop and move as is. Yes it may be a little bit quicker, but you will lose accuracy, and I see it as more confusing. So what I'm saying is, if somebody were to prefer to edit like that, it would be lazy of them not to do it the right way.
You are also right to say neither is superior, but I asked the question just to hear the opinions of others on the subject, not because I truly think in the end one will stand on top.
And the mere thought that RC Cola is superior to Pepsi is just ridiculous... haha... j/k
