Tripods

So I'm taking some classes at college and plan on doing editing or camera work for a career and am starting to build a list for some home gear to start out on.

My dad has an old Bogen 3036 tripod but since it's made for still cameras it does not have any fluid heads and is tough to keep smooth.

I'm looking for a good starter tripod at a fairly low price. I'm not even sure what they go for these days but I want the best features for the buck.

The camera I'll be using for now is a Sony Handycam...Not the best but I'm planning on getting a Canon Professional Camcorder soon, ( the XH G1 looks good but I'm not even sure what ill camera ill be getting at this point.)

just a though...could i buy

Just a thought
Could I buy just a fluid head for this 3036 tripod?

It looks like with just 3 screws the head can come off of the base which would save me some good money by getting me a nice fluid motion head and keeping the top notch quality Bogen tripod.

I'm just lost on what head to get...
