NewB Basic Questions NEED HELP

HEy sorry about this but i'm really new to this stuff. I bought a JVC handycam on ebay. I am trying to get a ton of footage on it, as to make a sponsorship video for snowboarding. So my question is: IT says it have DV I link so what do i need to connect it to my computer? IF I download Adobe Premier on like Kazaa or somthing would that be cool? And how do i get it from my little camcorder on the computer. Do i need a fire wire or any sort of card for my comp. I have a Dell Pentium 4 like 2.8 Ghz and 512 ram. Thanks Jas

Yes you will need a fly wire to connect your DV to the computer. I'm not sure of the price as I got mine for free after a technical mixup at the store but I'm guessing it'll set you back around $300. You'll need to install the hardware but once that's done it couldn't be simpler. It just plugs into your camera and you use a editing program to get the footage. Try searching on eBay but I suggest consulting with a few people to make sure you're getting the right equipment.

actually fire wires are only about $100 with (bad) software, the card and the cable. Of course i bought mine for 32$ because the new at radioshack screwed up.

FIREWIRE CARDS are CHEAP nowadays. You can get an adaptdec firewire card (I think it's called FireConnect) for $45 on amazon.com. That comes with a 6 to 4 pin firewire cable, used to connect the camera to computer, and honest to god probably the worst editing software I've ever seen. Also, I've used both Premiere and Final Cut. Final Cut is better. Get final cut express if you're on a budget, its almost as good, and $700 cheaper. Its what I use.
