I'm making a 5 minute short film, in the dark with...

A Super 8 Camera. This will be my first attempt at making a short film, I want to use a Super 8 Camera for the grittyness it gives you, since my movie pays homage to films such as Maniac! and Nightmare A few issues came to my mind: Editing: How would I transfer film from a Super 8 Camera to a computer without having to use another video camera to tape it from a projection? And also, is there anyway to edit without having a dark room? Lighting: I will be filming at night and using mostly natural light and street lights, would the Super 8 Camera be able to produce a good picture at night? Sound: I dont know if I need to get a mic or what, but I defenitly want to have sound in the short film Film: Apparently they only make Silent Film now for Super 8's, is this true or false? And if its false, where would be the best place to pick up some Super 8 Sound Film I'm going to be looking around on Ebay(.com.au) for Super 8 cameras, is there any certain models I should look for? All tips and advice welcome too Smiling - Chad

The best way is to have a lab transfer the footage to DV tape. It's called "telecine". http://www.bonofilm.com/home.asp http://www.yalefilmandvideo.com/

Sorry, I don't understand this question. You don't have to edit in a dark room.

Not really. Depending on the camera you use, the shutter speed, the speed of the film itself and the apature you may be able to make it work with existing light. All movies like Maniac! and Nightmare use a lot of atrificial light to get the dark gritty look.

Yes. In order to get sound you meed a mic to record it. And you need something to record to. Any audio recorder - analog or digital - will work. But sync sound will be a problem. Only the top of top of the line super8 cameras have crystal sync motors.

It true. Kodak stopped making magnetic striped (audio) film several years ago.

The three best - in my opinion - are: Beaulieu 4008 ZM II - I shot two features with this camera. Nikon R10 - the first camera I ever bought Canon 1041 XL-S - a solid camera with a great lens and pretty good under low light conditions. The others: Canon 514 XL-S and 814 XL Elmo 612S-XL / 1012S-XL Bauer and Elmo make solid cameras on the lower end.
