A problem with buying a professional camera

We are film producers from Poland. We are producing mostly music videos (but documentaries as well). You can see our productions at www.myspace.com/inbornmedia or visit our page at www.inbornmedia.com Presently, we have just one Sony HVR Z1E camcorder but we use it only for reportages and short documentaries. For production of music videos we hire digital beta, xdcams or hdcam (depending on the budget). We are a bit tired of hiring the stuff from third parties and want to invest money in a professional camcorder. The future is high definition, so I assume SD isn't really an issue any more. Is there any camcorder which is HD, has 2/3 CCD and is cheaper than HDCAM? Are there any options?

Why Not Rent To Own - Then Decide

Definitely, HD is here and for good - so don't consider investing in anything but HD. There are lots of good choices out there, great products by quality brands you will recognize. But the delema - as you state - is to not hire. But what about hire (or lease) with the option to own the equipment.

Our client Zacuto (http://www.zacuto.com/) offers HD Video Camera Rental with such a plan. You can find a link to their Rent To Own application here: https://www.zacuto.com//renttoown_application.php.

While there is the problem that their program is good only in the USA, you may well be able to find such an arrangement in Europe.

Good Luck
