Shipping Blank firing guns

Hi. I'm shooting a film in Brazil in a few months and I'm trying to find a way to get my blank firing guns over there. There are several different angles I'm looking into, but I'm wondering if there's some sort of permit, or way to deal with customs reguarding this issue. Is there a legit way to do this under our production company, or has any filmmmaker out there dealt with this problem before? The guns have plugged barrels and permits were not required to purchase or own them. thanks

Re: Shipping Blank firing guns

So they are true blank firing guns. I would advise looking into laws employed by Customs. I don't feel personally that it would be Gun Smuggling, but it could be misconstrued. You might need to talk to someone in the local government or do some online research.

Blank-firing guns

Yes, especially since most revolvers are not "plugged" for firing blanks only - like semi-autos are. Like stated earlier, you should contact your local film commission and they will advise you further - they might even be able to make contact in Brazil for you. Good luck.

Also please remember, though they shoot blanks, they are still LETHAL. Use common sense when putting people in harm's way. The full load blank (the only blank you can use in a semi-auto) is dangerous within 30 feet. There will also be hot brass shooting out of one side. I mention this for fire safety and for actor safety. Make sure your camera and grip departments carry Lexan for camera protection. Bring eye shields and ear plugs too. If you're going to work those guns a lot, make sure you bring a cleaning kit or two and learn how to take the guns apart for cleaning. Oh, one last thing, make sure to bring a gun safe or strong box with you. You might run into a theft issue otherwise. Have a good shoot and stay safe.
