This may seem a strange question but it does relate to filmmaking and for me it is very serious problem. Where i live is close to a small city called Wolverhampton (England). But it must be said that there is probably more opportunity for being creative in the middle of the Namib desert! I definitely want to relocate to somewhere else. The West Midlands suffers with a civil servant mentality - there is very little vision, imagination or courage here, only an atmosphere of penny-pinching and red-tape which produces nothing but mediocrity. It's hard to be creative when surrounded by so much negativity. It's a wonder we ever achieve anything in literature, architecture or filmmaking! So my question is very simple - where is the best place live for a creative person? Would you say it;s better to be in the city or doesn't it matter because I would prefer to be near to open spaces and the coast than trapped in the middle of Manchester or London. And the people definitely make the place - Wolverhampton has too many intolerant BNP supporters with literacy problems, i prefer intelligent people with a higher level of compassion and tolerance. I would prefer to stay in this country for the sake of my family and because i was born here but i keep finding myself drawn to Scandinavia and America. But you tell me, are things different over there? Look forward to hearing your replies.
