Trebas Institute

Imported Message: Posted by Jamie ( jami...@yahoo.com ) from Toronto, Canada.

Does anyone have any information about the Trebas Institute in Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal? I'm looking to attend in January 2004, but I want to know if it's worthwhile. Thanks!

Trebas Forum

Hey there. If you're curious about Trebas, you could check out this forum : http://trebas.hyperboards.com I attend Trebas Institute in Montreal, and I am in the Film and Video program. I initially set up this forum for our class, for discussions about our projects and such. But now, it is geared towards everyone, so feel free to come by. If you want, you can ask questions about the program itself. I find this a much better source of information than just reading a brochure or visiting their web site. Again, it's for everyone, so feel free to check it out!

Re: Trebas Institute

http://www.ed-oha.org/cases/1994-121-sp.html DO NOT GO TO TREBAS IT IS A SCAM THEY INVEST ALL THEIR MONEY IN MARKETING AND NOT IN THE EDUCATION OF THEIR STUDENTS! THIS IS NOT A RANT FROM A FRUSTRATED STUDENT, I AM DOING VERY WELL ACADEMICALLY - IT IS CONCERNING THE ADMINISTRATION, THE PRICE COMPARED TO THE VALUE OF THE EDUCATION AND THE WAY THE UTTERLY DISRESPECT AND OUTRIGHT LIE TO STUDENTS.

Re: Trebas Institute

I've also heard plenty of bad things about trebas i HIGHLY,highly, do not recommend that school, try international academy of design it maybe more pricey but atleast you'll get hands on experience.

Trebas is an industry joke

As a former staff member of Trebas I can honestly state they are an industry joke with no regard for the best interests of the students. The owner sees the school as nothing more than a way to pad his pockets. Why do you think the Vancouver campus was shut down?? Why is enrollment in Toronto so poor? The Toronto Film School is kicking Trebas' ass and has been for a long time now. DO NOT ATTEND TREBAS....they will not likely be open much longer anyway.

trebas anxiety

Hello to anyone who can help? A few friends and I have been strongly considering attending Trebas in Montreal this fall. However, we have been hearing mixed reviews. The former staff member who posted his/her thoughts in April has really gotten to us. We'd really like to be in touch with you via email to learn more about your insight and experiences. If anyone else who has attended trebas for FILM and/or SOUND programs at Trebas could please post their advise we would be grateful. Thank you!

I AGREE

HI everyone, I agree that Trebas is going no where fast. I have a lot of friends who went to Trebas and hated it. They're all working at record stores..'nuff said. For serious audio-philes, check out RAC - Recording Arts Canada. They just moved to Toronto from Stoney Creek and they have campuses in Toronto and Montreal. Their reputation is GREAT and they offer a really good intern program to graduates. Check out their website http:www.recordingarts.com [/url]

Trabas Film School

Film school.... NOT NEEDED!!!! no matter what film school you go to, NY Film school, concordia, trebas or the guy next door who teaches you how to use a camera is irrelevant. There is nothing they can teach you at any of these schools that you cant learn with a $5 library card from you local library (theory wise). Here is the single most important thing you must consider when going to a film school... equipment! How much equipment do they have, what kind of eqp to they have and how readily available is it to you. This is why I went to trebas. Correct the school is not the greatest but hear is what I got. 1 - My class had 5 people in it. 2. There are a total of 6 Mini DV cameras, 5 basic lighting kits and a 16mm camera. (avrg of 2 camera's per student and 1 lighting kit) 3. 2 AVID labs 2 Protool labs 4. made 3 shorts on Mini DV and 2 on 16mm The school is about 12g's (hell of a lot $$$$) but when I look at the equipment I got and post facilities to complete these projects, it would have cost me well over $25000 to make these. OH and lets not forget the teachers there teaching the film and video prod program are all filmmakers. I know this cause thats what I did all summer, work on their feature films. Ive also been asked to be the assistant editor on the feature as well as been asked to be the 1st AC on the next production. What Im trying to say is that NO film school can teach you how to make a film, you either got it or dont. They can only provide you the tools and guidance to make you vision come to life. As a former student I'm the first to say the admin of trebas SUCKS, but they are not the ones making my film.... I AM. So I used the hell out of there equipment and labs, got to know people and since then I have worked on 1 feature, 2 music videos, a short for the MTL film festival and TONS of student films all while attending the school for 1 year. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me : nlat...@hotmail.com

trebas scam

trebas institute is a very large scam after paying over 23000 for two courses and not recieving a deploma and not even allowed to finish my schooling i now owe a lot to student loans. the teachers were great but the administration, equipment and promises of the school and the head of the school was a world time joke. i wish the goverment a would thow these jokers in jail for trying to destoy peoples dreams , Signed the wolf

Recording Engineering

Don't bother taking ANY courses in recording engineering or producing if you are looking to earn a living.

There are NO jobs for recording engineers. I mean ZERO. Not one. Unless you want to poke around in some garage band thing some rocker put together for $5,000 and wants you to engineer there for $10/hr, if the band pays you.

Forget recording engineering as a career. It will NOT happen.

Been in this business a long time, and I mean a long time. Even engineers I know who did the Stones are working part time for $15/hr. Fuck that. Go work in Burger King, you will make way more money.

P

Not a good school. Anyone

Not a good school. Anyone who says otherwise has no idea what there talking about. Nice thing to do if your looking for a year off and u have the money, but don't go there for a serious education.

Trebas is cheap and managed terribly

I worked at Trebas for a couple semesters. They lacked any proper film making resources, had old computers and people writing the curriculum that don't know anything about film. By third term the kids were angry, sad and didn't want any part of the industry. I could no longer stay there. When they do there open house nights they rent equipment to make it look like they have some to rope you in, very awful to watch and I'm ashamed I was involved for even my short stay there. I learned how bad it was daily. Stay away, buy a camera with the money and learn yourself, seriously, it's the best way.

Trebas

I completed a one year intensive training in film and video production at Trebas.
All in all it was not worth the money ($14000), in that there isn't nearly enough equipment to go around. (cameras and editing suites, etc.) If you're lucky enough to have a small class (less than Cool, then you'll have a better chance at getting hands on experience with the equipment.
The staff was wonderful and I'd say three out of six teachers knew what they were talking about.
A few of the teachers (who also claim to be industry "professionals"), were seemingly either emotionally disturbed, or absolutely and narcissistically psychotic (Steer clear of Ben Paquette unless you want trouble.).
Going to this school is not enough for you to make it in the industry. It all depends on how realistic you are about what you want to do once you're done, and how determined you are to get to where you want to go. I got a job as an assistant editor two weeks after graduation, and three years later I am a television editor with the hopes of one day being able to direct and shoot my own feature length film.
I am not where I am today because of a Trebas diploma. In fact, I try to avoid bringing up the school in general unless I have to. I am where I am, where I want to be, because of my own networking, hard work and persistence. That's all you need! Oh and a little bit of luck doesn't hurt either.

ENTERTAINMENT MANAGEMENT @ TREBAS OR RECORDING ARTS @ HARRIS???

Hey people, I was considering going to Trebas for ENtertainment management until I got to this forum. Than I've heard that Harris is far better. The course in there is called RAM: Recording Arts Management, but is actually the same idea.
Does somebody know anything about?
Or if someone could at least complare the two institutions if you dont know the courses. Is harris as bad as you say Trebas is, or is far different?

??

hi
i dont wanna be recording engineer, but i want to work in the music industry and am considering taking entertainment management @ trebas or recording arts @ harris.
do you think some of them is better or is all same shit?
and do you think the whole field of music business is in the same situation as you describe recording engineering? should I better take a job in burger king really?

just like the two previous

just like the two previous comment i was looking at possibly attending trebas for Ent. Management until i came across this posting...what are the other options in Toronto....? i have just moved here from the UK so im not really up to speed on all the schools offering these types of courses.
